Biography
Dr. Herbold has twenty-eight years of experience in working with children and families. She provides neuropsychological and psychological assessments to children and youth of all ages. She sees children and adolescents in psychotherapy, and provides parenting consultation. One of her specialties is working with young children in dyadic and play therapy. Her approach to clinical work is psychoanalytically informed and relationally oriented.
Dr. Herbold was Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at University of California, San Francisco, San Francisco General Hospital. She has served as faculty and clinical supervisor at a number of Bay Area training programs, including at WestCoast Children's Clinic, Edgewood Center for Children and Families, and Saint Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center. Her treatment approach makes use of collaborative relationships with parents and other involved professionals.
Dr. Herbold earned her Ph.D. from the Wright Institute in Berkeley, and her B.A. in American Studies from Stanford University. She has a strong interest in literature and languages, and studied at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and Université de Paris - La Sorbonne. In her dissertation, she developed a theoretical model that conceptualizes dissociation as a process that disrupts a person's capacity to create meaning or engage fully with others. This work, From Dissociation to Reverie: A Theoretical and Clinical Model of Dissociation, was awarded the Wright Institute’s Outstanding Dissertation Award.
